Dilworth Soup Kitchen is first and foremost a family. We don’t have employees, our team is made up entirely of dedicated volunteers. We are lucky enough to have a core group of folks who have been keeping DSK running for years, but we are constantly in need of helping hands! If you are interested in lending a hand, the best thing you can do is come in on a Monday during lunch and see our operation in person. We have many, many types of opportunities – at various times and skill levels! No matter what you come to do, you’ll be treated warmly, and you’ll leave knowing you are a part of something bigger than yourself.
On Mondays you’ll find our early birds prepping away starting at 7 a.m. Our prep crew works tirelessly to sort, wash, and chop vegetables, fruits and breads all morning long. The kitchen team is also on hand first thing, and if you like to cook, you’re in the right place. We serve upwards of 200+ meals each week, and our prep crew and chefs are always looking for help in the kitchen. Starting around 11 a.m., our serving staff begins to trickle in – we assign at least one server to each table, allowing our guests to relax while we grab coffee, sweet tea, and whatever delicious meal is being served for them. If you or your team would like to wait on tables, be sure to email or sign up in person, it’s our most popular task! Behind the scenes, our clean-up crew is in constant motion. We have dishes to wash, tables to clean, you name it! If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, you are our type of volunteer! We always, always, always need help with clean up from noon until 4 p.m. or so.
DSK has plenty of other behind-the-scenes opportunities, especially for groups and for folks who have SUVs or pickup trucks! We collect a lot of food from local businesses and grocery stores at various times throughout the week.
