CHARLOTTE … The Dilworth Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry voted to add Paul Finnen to its board of directors at its February 28 meeting and accepted the resignation of Gary Parks. The board also voted to re-elect its five-person executive board.
Finnen, a recent DSK volunteer, has significant community-related experience on the boards of the Emergency Winter Shelter, the Men’s Shelter – Roof Above, Common Wealth Charlotte, Beds for Kids and Charlotte Family Housing.
Parks joined the DSK board a few years ago and has been instrumental in marketing, operations and especially fundraising initiatives. He and his wife recently moved to Georgia.
“We will greatly miss Gary for his major contributions to the DSK and wish him and Carla well,” said Tom Fedell, DSK chairperson. “And we’re excited to welcome Paul to the board. He brings a wealth of experience not only from his wide-ranging community work, but with his business and financial acumen.”
The other executive board members are Gary Klasen, vice chairman; Nelson Haynes, treasurer; Anne Gildea, secretary; and Rosemary Harris, operations. Also on the board are Tanarge Clegg, Paul Finnen, Jimmy Flowers, Jane Haynes, Jolin McElroy, Suzanne Sigmon and Gregg Sumrow.
The non-profit Dilworth Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry provides hot, nutritious lunches and groceries every Monday and Friday from 11 a.m. to noon for up to 200 guests from throughout Charlotte. The food pantry provides fresh food and non-perishables on the first and third Wednesday of each month to registered guests. Located at the First Christian Church, 1200 East Blvd., the Soup Kitchen has no paid staff and relies on the support of our volunteers, the community and local businesses and individuals.
